Net Zero World Initiative
The United States, partner countries, and philanthropies are joining forces to accelerate the transition to clean, secure energy systems and build a Net Zero World.
The Net Zero World Initiative leverages expertise across U.S. government agencies and U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) national laboratories, including NREL, for a whole-of-government approach focused on advancing the decarbonization of global energy systems for our partners.
The program supports countries committed to raising their climate ambitions through the development of tailored strategies addressing technical clean energy pathways and deployment and investment opportunities that keep net-zero within reach.

U.S. Indonesia Embassy Clean Energy Workshop To Strengthen Battery-to Electric Vehicle Supply Chain
The Net Zero World Initiative led by the U.S. Department of Energy, the U.S. Department of Commerce’s International Trade Administration and Indonesia’s Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, held the Clean Energy for Indonesian Industrial Zones: Battery-to-Electric Vehicle workshop to advance the use of clean energy technologies to decarbonize Indonesia’s industrial zones and to strengthen battery-to-electric vehicle supply chain development.

By joining the Net Zero World Initiative, partners have access to:
- Tailored energy modeling and analysis collaboration to inform country-driven net-zero pathways and technical and investment plans
- World-class technical support for transformative implementation and just energy transition actions
- Investment mobilization assistance at all stages by:
- Feeding into financial planning: conducting detailed studies to comprehend the costs, benefits, and risks of carbon emission reduction plans in energy systems
- Leveraging financial tools: Developing or improving financial instruments (like revolving loan funds), fiscal policies (such as tax rebates), and other mechanisms to generate capital for clean energy technology
- De-risking projects: Providing technical support for initial assessments, detailed studies, and design plans to reduce financial risks in clean energy projects.
Results and Impacts
Partner countries have the technical solutions, knowledge, support, financing, and confidence to rapidly transition to clean, secure, and equitable energy systems globally.

Net Zero World-Energy Transition Council Partnership
The Energy Transition Council (ETC) chaired by the United Kingdom, the Philippines, and the Net Zero World Initiative announced during the ETC Ministerial meeting on May 22nd a new partnership between these programs. This Net Zero World–ETC partnership will advance clean energy transitions in priority areas set by partner countries. The ETC supports 11 partner countries across Asia and Africa: Bangladesh, Egypt, India, Indonesia, Kenya, Laos People's Democratic Republic, Morocco, Nigeria, Pakistan, Philippines, and Vietnam. The ETC and Net Zero World plan to cooperate in the following areas, with a particular focus on activities with Egypt, Indonesia, Nigeria, and Vietnam (current partner countries for both programs)—and new partner countries for both programs that are added in the future:
- Mutual participation in virtual and in-person meetings of ministers and other senior government officials on clean energy transition topics with a goal of raising ambition, improving knowledge exchange, peer inspiration and learning, and coordination of activities
- The two programs will identify and pursue opportunities to coordinate existing assistance to countries on clean energy transitions and to scale up such support
- Joint participation and delivery of regional energy transition dialogues and regional and global peer learning and training programs.
Net Zero World-Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit Partnership
The Net Zero World Initiative is partnering with Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH to accelerate global energy transitions. GIZ provides services worldwide in the field of international cooperation for sustainable development, with over 50 years of experience in a wide variety of areas, including economic development and employment, energy and the environment, and peace and security. This vital partnership will support country partners in raising their climate ambitions, advancing their energy transitions, and serving as regional leaders. GIZ and Net Zero World have established working groups on Community Fossil Transitions and Benefits Sharing, High Ambition Energy Planning, and Women's Leadership Programs, the purpose of which are to exchange best practices, ensure close coordination, and identify areas for joint activities that could have greater collective impacts across our initiatives.

Vital collaboration with our philanthropic partners helps to accelerate net-zero energy transitions globally by:
- Enabling acceleration of pioneering, high-impact decarbonization actions and investment mobilization that will achieve large-scale emission reductions in partner countries and serve as confidence-building models for replication by others.
- Ensuring a global, sustained approach to providing regional leaders with deep technical and capacity-building support to inform viable decarbonization pathways for affordable clean energy deployment at scale.
- Expanding the breadth of country impact by supporting regional and global collaborations and learning and replication on common energy transition transformative actions.
- Identifying opportunities for in-depth work in additional key countries.
- Providing a platform for collaborating with other philanthropic efforts to ensure greater shared impact and alignment.
