Chris Bowyer joined NREL’s Residential Buildings Solutions and Scaling Group in 2023. His experience in the built environment primarily lies in his role overseeing the performance and operations of the Alliance Center, one of the highest performing buildings in Denver, Colorado. As an integral part of the organization and under his stewardship, he oversaw all aspects of the facility’s sustainability and green building performance. He also oversaw the programmatic efforts of the Living Laboratory, enabling various markets to expand and to maintain a sustainable development. This program incorporated the research of various individuals within NREL’s Building Technologies and Science Center at NREL, including end-use submetering, bidirectional electric vehicle charging, direct current microgrids, and others.

Book-ending his involvement with the Alliance Center, he was a respected and accomplished project manager in both the sustainability strategy and consulting and transportation consulting industries. This work included greenhouse gas emissions accounting and reduction efforts, photovoltaic and battery storage installations, and numerous LEED certifications.

Chris is also an accomplished presenter and was awarded the Individual Leadership Award by Energize Denver for leadership in energy efficiency efforts and COVID-19 pandemic response in 2021.
