Reuben Swart joined NREL in 2022 as a postdoctoral researcher. Currently, his research is focused on bioprocessing, upgrading C1 molecules through bacterial route to sustainable aviation fuel precursors. 

He completed his doctorate degree in chemical engineering at the University of Pretoria. His research focused on the use of metabolic flux analysis to inform substrate feed strategies that maximized fumaric acid production from Rhizopus oryzae.
