Photography
NREL's photography supports our vision for a clean energy future through people-focused, authentic, diverse and inclusive, and demonstrated imagery.
People-Focused: NRELians
NREL photos feature people—not only equipment, machinery, or buildings—to convey staff's vital role to the laboratory's mission and capture their enthusiasm for our leadership in changing the world.
Authentic
NREL photographers maintain the laboratory's standards of integrity and accuracy by capturing photos that authentically portray subjects. These photos show real and imperfect moments that are relatable and engaging. Images are not manipulated or retouched to enhance or distort people or events. They provide an emotional connection and depict the current state of our technology and research.
Although stock photography is appropriate for conveying futuristic concepts, geographic context, and backgrounds, it should be used sparingly.
Diverse and Inclusive
We carefully and responsibly consider the photos we choose to project our brand. When our photos reflect the diversity in our world, we honor our customers, partners, and employees. Incorporating diversity and inclusion from the onset enables us to reflect it honestly and respectfully. We include people of all ethnicities, genders, ages, physical abilities, and orientations.
Demonstrated
Our images also demonstrate our commitment to safety. NREL photographs show that our team follows location-specific safety protocols and uses proper personal protective equipment. NREL research and activities span basic science to deployment.
