Installing and Using the Styles Macro
To attach NREL's styles to a report using the styles macro, follow steps 1–3 below the first time and only Step 3 after that. The macro needs to be installed only once.
The instructions below are for Microsoft Word 2016 for Windows. Install and attach the template in Microsoft Word 2016 for Mac.
Step 1. Install the Styles Macro.
- Save the styles macro (BAT 1 KB) to your desktop.
- Change the file extension from .bat to .bas.
- Open any Word document.
- Press Alt + F11 to open Visual Basic.
- In the Project – Project box (top left), select Normal.
- Click the File menu (top left) and select Import File.
- Navigate to the styles macro you saved on your desktop and click Open.
- Close the Visual Basic window ("x" button in the top-right corner).
- Delete the .bas file from your desktop.
Step 2. Create a Quick Access Button.
- In your Word document, click the File tab (top-left corner).
- Click Options (bottom of left menu).
- Click Quick Access Toolbar (middle of left menu).
- In the Choose commands from dropdown menu (top of left panel), select Macros from the top of the list.
- Select the styles macro (usually named Normal.NewMacros.nrel_styles_macro).
- Click Add (center), use the Modify button to select an image (optional), and click OK.
Step 3. Use the Macro To Apply NREL's Styles.
- Click the styles macro image in the Quick Access Toolbar. (The image you selected in step 2 will be in the top row on the right side by default.)
- Open the Styles panel (Alt + Ctrl + Shift + S):
Home tab Styles group dropdown arrow in the lower-right corner. - Highlight content to format and click on a style in the Styles panel. (The NREL styles start with "NREL_" in the list of styles.)
