The ASEAN Climate Solutions Hub is a U.S. Department of State- and U.S. Department of Energy-sponsored initiative that focuses on renewable energy deployment, transportation decarbonization, methane reduction, and sustainable agriculture, forestry, and land management. NREL is providing technical assistance through this U.S. government initiative to help ASEAN countries enhance and implement Nationally Determined Contributions and develop low-emission development and resilience strategies.

This work includes developing energy and land-use frameworks and measures that mobilize public and private finance to support the clean energy transition. The initiative also collaborates with ASEAN regional partners and global networks to share best practices to advance net-zero emissions and system resilience pathways.

Application Information

Governmental entities from eligible ASEAN countries can apply for technical assistance to support decarbonization efforts, including but not limited to renewable energy planning and deployment; sustainable transportation; and sustainable agriculture, forestry, and land management. The ASEAN Climate Solutions Hub expects funding for each project to range from approximately $50,000 to $300,000 depending on the technical support requested. NREL can work with applicants to refine project components, including but not limited to proposed activities, timelines, and budgets.

Potential projects could include:

  • Modeling support for Nationally Determined Contributions and long-term strategies implementation pathway development, including sectoral capacity building for advanced modeling in the energy, transport, and industrial sectors
  • Technical advisory services to support power and transport sector planning, including variable renewable energy integration and electric vehicle and charging infrastructure deployment
  • Technical support to facilitate the use of Internationally Transferrable Mitigation Outcomes or other frameworks to support emission reductions and other development goals.
