Dive Into the Marine Energy Atlas (Text Version)

This is the text version of the video Dive Into the Marine Energy Atlas. The Marine Energy Atlas is a free interactive mapping tool that helps harness the power of oceans and rivers.

Have you heard about the Marine Energy Atlas?

[A computer screen shows the Marine Energy Atlas, a map of North America with color coded areas of the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans showing omnidirectional wave power.]

This free interactive mapping tool allows anyone to access data they need to harness the power of oceans and rivers.

The Marine Energy Atlas supports everything, from project siting to device design by providing access to high-resolution comprehensive data sets.

You can find the Marine Energy Atlas on the Portal and Repository for Information on Marine Renewable Energy, or PRIMRE.

[The link to the Marine Energy Atlas appears on the Portal and Repository for Information on Marine Renewable Energy, which is on the Open EI website under the Knowledge Hubs tab.]

Use the Atlas to explore U.S. wave, tidal, riverine current, ocean current, and ocean thermal resources as well as the locations of wave buoys.

Need to subset your data? You have options. Query tools allow you to retrieve your data using coordinates, a point on a map, region, custom shape, or radius.

[The tools appear on a bar on the right side of the map. The user forms a four-sided shape on the map.]

You can also subset your data by year.

[The year selector is located on the toolbar on the right of the screen.]

Finally, you can use the capacity factor tool to upload information on your wave energy device and estimate how much electricity it can produce.

[The Capacity Factor pop-up screen appears on the left of the map.]

Ready to power up your marine energy potential? Come see what the Marine Energy Atlas can do for you.
