Navigating the complex web of federal and state hydropower regulations can cause major challenges for developers, regulators, and nongovernmental organizations—both new and experienced.
How can these processes be made more accessible and easier to understand?

The Hydropower Regulatory and Permitting Information Desktop Toolkit—or RAPID, for short—can help.
This free toolkit offers access to information on regulatory and permitting requirements, lessons learned and best practices, case studies, and how-to info while facilitating communication among stakeholders.

Want to compare regulatory permitting requirements in different states? Click around the interactive map to explore up to four jurisdictions.
Need specific guidance, information, or manuals? Dive into the Hydropower Reference Library, where information from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission and other federal and state agencies is available in one location.
There’s even a curated collection of best practices and lessons learned that includes topics such as negotiating settlement agreements and adding capacity to existing hydropower projects.
Since 2015, hydropower stakeholders have provided input to keep the toolkit current and robust, all while making use of it themselves: The site has had more than 10,000 users, 100,000 page views, and 10,000 report downloads.
Keep developing with "RAPID" ease. See what the toolkit can do at rapidtoolkit.org.
