2018 WholeTraveler Transportation Behavior Study
The 2018 WholeTraveler Transportation Behavior Study provided insight into the transportation-related decisions made by various populations in the San Francisco Bay area in California.
Data Collection Agency
Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory conducted the study.
Methodology
The study consisted of two phases.
Phase 1
Phase 1 of the study involved data collection via an online survey on a broad range of behavioral choices and factors that might influence certain mobility decisions or preferences. An invitation to participate in the survey was sent to a random sampling of 60,000 addresses in nine counties in the San Francisco Bay area, including Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Solano, and Sonoma counties.
Phase 2
Participants who completed the online survey were invited to participate in Phase 2, which involved recording their movements and travel for one week based on global positioning system data from the Google Maps app on their mobile devices. Data from Phase 1 and Phase 2 were linked by a unique respondent identifier.
Survey Records
Study records include 1,045 participants.
