2024 California Vehicle Survey
The 2024 California Vehicle Survey of residential and commercial light-duty fleet owners was designed to assess consumer preferences for different vehicle types, including autonomous vehicles.
The survey featured a general sample as well as a targeted sample of zero-emission vehicle owners and new questions on vehicle-to-grid options along with photovoltaic and battery ownership.
Data Collection Agency
The California Energy Commission conducted the survey.
Survey Methodology
The survey integrated current light-duty vehicle holding, vehicle use, vehicle choice, economic, and demographic data. It covered stated preferences for eight vehicle and fuel types as well as autonomous vehicles.
Survey participants who owned plug-in electric vehicles provided additional data on charging behavior, electricity rates, vehicle-to-grid options, battery ownership, and their motivations for purchasing plug-in electric vehicles and/or autonomous vehicles. Fuel cell electric vehicle owners provided additional data on fueling behavior.
Survey Records, Data, and Documentation
Survey records include a total of 6,010 surveys for both residential (3,890) and commercial (2,120) market segments, with 655 zero-emission vehicle owner surveys between the two segments.
