Research

NREL's workforce research spans from forecasting and analysis to deep engagement with energy sector stakeholders through prizes, partnerships, practitioner convenings, and capacity building to support domestic and global clean energy transitions.

NREL focuses on job roles across all phases of clean energy deployment and the multiple pathways to recruit and train workers, including K-12, higher education, and apprenticeships. NREL works across sectors and in partnership with U.S. Department of Energy offices, the U.S. Agency for International Development, state agencies, foundations and more to advance research, development, and engagements to build and maintain a strong clean energy workforce. NREL works across energy technologies—including wind, buildings, geothermal, hydropower, marine energy, and solar—to support their burgeoning workforce needs.
