Community Microgrid Assistance Partnership

Remote communities and Tribes can build energy independence and energy resilience through microgrid development assistance provided by the U.S. Department of Energy Office of Electricity and facilitated by NREL.

Microgrids that generate power from renewable energy reduce dependency on imported fuels and can contribute to community and Tribal energy independence and energy resilience. Through the Community Microgrid Assistance Partnership (C-MAP), remote communities and Tribes can access technical assistance and/or funding for microgrid planning, development, or improvements.

Building Microgrid Success and Knowledge

C-MAP brings together communities interested in microgrids, communities and organizations with direct experience in microgrid development, and organizations with a mission to support sustainable energy systems. The partnership provides participants with technical assistance and/or funding for microgrid planning, development, or improvements. Built for long-term sustainability, the microgrids developed in partnership with C-MAP will demonstrate technology solutions that can be replicated nationwide, and thus build knowledge around microgrid development in remote communities.

Access Microgrid Assistance and Funding

The C-MAP pilot program—launched in October 2024—is accepting project proposals from Alaska, Hawaii, and Indigenous Tribes in the Great Plains and Southwest. Eligible communities must be energy burdened and remote, rural, or electrically islanded. Contact us for support developing a project proposal that outlines your local goals, resources, and priorities in alignment with C-MAP offerings. Apply on sam.gov by the extended deadline of Jan. 31, 2025.
